FASHION AND ARTS - YSL AND THE ROKEBY VENUS

What are the subliminal messages sent through shapes, colours, symbols and icons used by the most well-known designers to evoke the desire to possess a fashion dress, which act on our psyche?

In this advertising picture we can find many signs.

The author has been inspired by the painting "LA VENUS DEL ESPEJO" by Velazquez and has created a very effective image.
Mirrors are symbols for narcissism and vanity.

The bed is symbol for sensuality. The proxemic and gestural codes of the couple, are an index that they prefer to love their own imagine reflected in the mirror, than the other one.

So, there is a difference between the two images. in the first one, beauty is more important than love, in the second one, beauty is important but only to reach and seduce the others.

The message hidden in this advertising picture is that the Yves Saint Laurent woman is enough strong to stay alone, if she wants to do it. She is self confident, free and She doesn't need a man to be happy.

The picture is an allegory of self confidence and freedom but implicates that often freedom can mean loneliness.
