SEMANTIC CATEGORIES: METRIC

Metric categories refer to the size of the design “objects” and to the perception that these volumes generate.

To see the same object with a different size sends different hidden messages to the receiver and can be perceived in a different way.

The sensation generated by a big gem or a little gem are different such as that generated by a long pearl necklace or a short pearl necklace.

They are based on a series of combinations associated by opposites such as, wide/narrow, big/small, short/long.

It is up to the luxury designer to decide, based on the intentions, what range of perceptions to generate by the combination of these elements: for instance, the big, long range would be a perfect combination for a luxury car, but could be poorly suited for a swiss boxcutter.
